Everywhere throughout the State, in the Month of January, the peaceful blue sky with beautiful kites look wonderful and since morning to night stays spotted with vivid sprinkles of color with kites in a mixed bag of tints, shapes and sizes. As the sun sets and dimness floats over, adolescents keep contending one another in matchless quality in the sky, now with the paper lights fixing to their kite-strings. These lights known as tukkal influencing at the mellow stroke of wind introduces a gorgeous picture while some attempt to cut off these tukkals and delight in the fun.
Makar Sankranti (Kite Flying Day) denote the end of a long winter with the reappearance of the sun to the Northern Hemisphere. As per the Hindu space science the sun enters the zodiac of Makara (Capricorn). Thus, it is called Uttarayan or Makar Sankranti.
