Ganga Dussehra, held over the initial 10 days of the month of Jyeshtha (in June), celebrates Gangavataran - the drop of the Ganga to earth. The Ganga, biggest of India's waterways and the most holy to Hindus, holds a special place in Indian cognizance. Viewed as a divine stream beginning in the sky, she is revered as the mother who washes away all the wrongdoings of humankind.

The initial ten days of the month Jyeshtha, known as Dashahara, are devoted to respect the stream Ganges. It is accepted that if one offers requests to God on this day, one accomplishes salvation from ten transgressions. The celebration's name Dussehra is determined from "Dus" which suggests ten and " hara' which means rout. Accordingly the name Ganga Dusshera.

Festivals

Throughout this celebration ten days of the month are dedicated to the love of Holy River Ganga adored by the Hindus as a mother also     

as a goddess, especially by individuals of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Bengal through which the waterway streams. Aficionados herd to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Garh-Mukteshwar, Prayag, Varanasi to think and take a sacred dip. They take the waterway mud home to love.

At night, many leaf vessels laden with flares, blossoms, and sweetmeats are offered to the waterway and they stream with the ebb and flow to the qualities of the chimes and bhajans, kirtans and shlokas recounted throughout the arati.
